Neurality's History

The seminal idea was born in 2015 during a congress of the Argentine Neurosurgery Association. On that occasion, Dr. Fabián Cremaschi had been invited to give a lecture on the "errors, horrors and complications" that can occur during the biopsy of brain tumors, using a surgical technique called "stereotactic". At the same congress, a group of young developers were showing a virtual reality (VR) simulator to perform a lumbar puncture, a diagnostic method widely used in medicine. At that time Dr. Cremaschi decided to develop a simulator using VR to train future neurosurgeons in the stereotactic technique, which is also used to perform Parkinson's disease surgeries, among others, the original purpose of the project. Subsequently this original idea was turned into a Master's thesis in Clinical Research, which was rated as "outstanding" for its originality and innovation, especially in the development of a validation methodology for the simulator to be a real medical training tool and not a mere VR game. Taking into account that only in the USA more than 210,000 people die due to surgical errors, with a cost of 17 to 29 billion USD per year, we are facing a great global problem. The projection for Argentina is 2,500 deaths per year. Training with digital simulators has proven, as was also done in the Thesis, to be a very valuable tool. So much so that the current global market is estimated at 3.5 billion USD, with an annual growth rate of 28.12%. Considering these data, in 2023 Dr. Cremaschi decides to make a 180º turn to add an entrepreneurial vision to the scientific and academic aspects. For this, he convenes a transdisciplinary team, with complementary experience and profiles to develop new simulators for medical training with a new and innovative vision.
